Teachers up ante, administration downplays loo-duty notice

GAYA: Apparently upping the ante on the issue of Gaya district administration order to depute college teachers for

sanitation duty including toilet cleaning during the forthcoming Pitripaksh, Gaya College Teachers Association secretary Ram Bilas Singh, while challenging the order, asked as to under what rule the order had been passed. Seeking immediate withdrawal of the controversial letter no. 893 issued by the district panchayati raj (DPR) officer in his capacity as in-charge housing for the Pitripaksh 2012 pilgrims, the Teachers Association secretary said that the order was not acceptable to the college teachers whose service conditions are guided by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Bihar State Universities Act. Reacting to the teacher leaders' outburst, Yashupati Mishra, DPR officer and signatory of the controversial letter, said that no order had been passed to depute college teachers and as such, the question pertaining to its legality automatically becomes infructuous.
